Freelance editors need good business skills. Being a good freelancer isn't just about being a terrific editor and being able to attract clients, and it isn't always what you might expect. It doesn't suit everyone but, for those it does, it can be a rewarding option for working in publishing. This workshop will take participants through the practical requirements and examine the realities of freelancing.
This full-day workshop (with lunch and morning and afternoon tea supplied) will be equally valuable to in-house editors wanting to spread their wings, new editors setting up their business and experienced freelancers in all fields of publishing who want to top up their skills and make sure they're going about their business the right way.
Kerry Davies has more than 35 years' experience in the publishing and communications industries in private and government sectors, much of it as a freelancer, but also in-house as Manager of Magabala Books in Broome and Senior Editor for Focus Publishing in Sydney. She is an IPEd Accredited Editor and has worked on numerous trade publications, educational titles, reports and reference books. She runs a freelance business, Kerry Davies Publishing Services, established in Sydney in 1997 and based in Brisbane since 2004, and is President of the Society of Editors (Queensland).
