Give IPEd your feedback
In February this year, IPEd's Style Manual Steering Group (SMSG) attended the federal government's Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) stakeholder information session on the 7th edition of the Style manual.
Since then, we have been working on a way to collect feedback from users of the Style manual - editors - to help guide the revised edition. We have compiled a survey to collect data from IPEd members, CSE (Canberra Society of Editors) members and other Style Manual users, in three parts:
- about you
- about your use of the Style Manual
- specific comments on content.
We wish to thank IPEd members Wendy Monaghan AE and Annie Ellis for kickstarting the survey and, along with members of the SMSG, for providing invaluable feedback; and member Juliet Richters for her review of the final version.
Data that will be collected includes editorial qualifications and experience of respondents, areas of work, frequency of use of the Style manual and use of specific parts.
At the conclusion of the survey, we will compile the results (deidentified) and forward to DTA. We believe this data will sit comfortably alongside, and most likely enhance, DTA's existing research. It will also inform IPEd's consultative role as the development process unfolds.
The survey is now open; the deadline for completion is 30 June 2018.
In addition to IPEd's survey, the DTA is also collecting public feedback, aimed predominantly at members of the Australian Public Service, with a focus on writing and style-checking tools and platforms employed by users of the Style manual.
By completing both IPEd's and DTA's feedback surveys, you will be providing valuable input into the development of a 7th edition of the Style manual.
