Laurel Mackinnon is renowned for her expertise in academic editing and is currently Chair of IPEd's Standing Committee on Academic Editing (SCAE).

About the presenter
Laurel Mackinnon was an academic for 20 years in the US and at The University of Queensland (UQ); she is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences at UQ.
Laurel has worked as a medical and science writer and editor in the biomedical sciences for the past 19 years. She specialises in editing the work of researchers whose first language is not English.
As a member of IPEd's Standing Committee on Academic Editing (SCAE), Laurel leads the 'pod' that has been revising the Guidelines for editing research theses, which has been submitted for approval by the IPEd Board. As noted above, she has recently taken over as Chair of the SCAE.
Laurel will also be giving a talk on 'Predatory academic publishing' at the IPEd national conference in May.
