About the presenters
The presenters are Helena Bond AE, Kerry Davies AE and Desolie Page AE.
Helena Bond has been editing since 1990, and involved with the Society of Editors, now Editors Queensland, since 1996. She gained her accreditation in 2008. Helena is an experienced trainer and has been involved with all the exams since the first, either presenting at preparation workshops or on the panel of exam writers. Nonetheless, she had nightmares about actually taking the exam. Don't be scared, ask your questions.
Kerry Davies has more than 40 years' experience in the publishing and communications industries, and has been a member of either the Queensland or New South Wales Society of Editors, and now Editors Queensland, since 1995. She has run several workshops for Editors Queensland, and was part of the exam writing team in 2014 and the review of Australian Standards for Editing Practice in 2012–13. She nervously sat (and passed) the 2011 exam.
Desolie Page has clocked up her fair share of editing and training. With some trepidation, she sat that first exam back in 2008, and has been the Queensland member of the Accreditation Board since 2013. Desolie was chair of the board from October 2017 to December 2018. And no, she has not seen the exam content, so she won't be dropping any hints.
What to expect
This workshop will help you get ready for the 2020 IPEd accreditation exam to be held on Saturday 15 August. The exam will be conducted entirely onscreen using Microsoft Word. In the May workshop the presenters will talk you through the onscreen sample exam. Complete this exam from the IPEd website before the workshop, under exam conditions, and use the marking guide to assess yourself. The workshop will cover exam techniques and timing, stylesheets, and using the onscreen format. This is your opportunity to ask questions and brush up your skills. If you intend to register for the exam or are considering doing it, you should attend this workshop.
