What is RSS?Really Simple Syndication (RSS) — also known as Rich Site Summary — is a way of publishing updated content and information about your web site, in a way that is ... well, simple! On the Society of Editors, Queensland, site, this means that you can use an RSS reader — like your personalised Google or Yahoo homepage — to have a summary of our What’s New page delivered direct to your desktop. There are plenty of free programs that you can load to access RSS feeds, and even the newer versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer can access RSS for you. To find a program you can use, type “rss reader” into Google. But it doesn’t stop at your humble Society of Editors site. You can get everything from world news, the weather, jokes, dictionaries, quotes, recipes ... in fact, if it’s on the web, there’s probably an RSS feed going that will deliver it to you. For more information on RSS in general, along with a plethora of links to other useful information and sites on the subject, visit the Wikipedia page on RSS. If you already have an RSS reader set up, click on the link below to add the Society of Editors, Queensland, or copy and paste the URL into your RSS reader. http://www.editorsqld.com/editorsqld.rss
If you would like more information, or need help setting up an RSS reader to deliver updates from the Society to your computer, please feel free to email David Hill, the Society’s Web Officer. |
